A Spa Skunk Cake

This is Madyson and she has turned 10.  Madyson has a spa day and .... (wait for it).... she thinks skunks are cool... and perhaps a bit misunderstood.  So of course this cake had to be a Spa-Skunk Birthday Cake!

You know?  I am loving this table cover.  It really works with the cake colours.

Monkeying Around

Awhile back, I thought I would practice creating fondant animals. Here is what I came up with.

A baby panda. Aren't those paws cute?

Shoe Box

A friend requested a cake for her niece turning 16.  Something fashionable.  So I did a Shoe Box Cake with a gum paste shoe.  The top is an actual shoe box lid covered with fondant.

Flavour Devil's Food cake, and I added a teaspoon of cinnamon to give it a kick. 

I used a 9"x13" pan to bake the cake.  I cut the cake in half (9"x6.5") and layered the halves with buttercream icing. I decorated it with fondant after.

Ingredients:

- 1 1/4 cups sugar
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 2/3 cup vegetable oil
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 1/4 teaspoons baking soda

Oh Boy! Baby Shower Cake

A baby shower cake for a Mom-to-be. I guess you can guess what she is expecting. This is a white chocolate cake, decorated with buttercream icing and gum paste fondant. 8"x8", 2 layers for a group of 20. Oh Boy.... here is the recipe:

- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 6 (1 ounce) squares white chocolate, chopped
- 1/2 cup hot water
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups white sugar
- 3 eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk
