Shoe Box

A friend requested a cake for her niece turning 16.  Something fashionable.  So I did a Shoe Box Cake with a gum paste shoe.  The top is an actual shoe box lid covered with fondant.
Flavour Devil's Food cake, and I added a teaspoon of cinnamon to give it a kick.

I used a 9"x13" pan to bake the cake.  I cut the cake in half (9"x6.5") and layered the halves with buttercream icing. I decorated it with fondant after.

Ingredients:
- 1 1/4 cups sugar
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 2/3 cup vegetable oil
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 1/4 teaspoons baking soda

Story Book Cakes

Oooo..... Sorry for the late posting.  I have been busy though.

A brother and sister celebration. 4 year old Ashanti loves Princess Jasmine, and two year old Ajahni loves Spiderman. Chocolate cake story book style!
I prepared two chocolate cakes with buttercream icing. I pulled out some pages from a colouring book and placed a sheet of parchment paper on top of each of them. I then traced the pictures with a thin piping tip of black buttercream icing mixed with piping gel.  Once that was done, I took one of the cakes and placed the one of the parchment paper tracings upside down on top of the cake and pressed it on to the surface.  I then coloured within the lines with coloured icing mixed with icing gel.

Pull Away Cake

Great news! I received a second order of cupcakes for 1 year old Drew.

These cupcakes would be different though. The request was is for a cupcake cake! They are to be 24 red velvet, and 6 eggless chocolate with a cream cheese frosting.
Also known as a pull away cake, cupcakes are used as the base and is then frosted as one cake. Since these cakes are made out of cupcakes, they are made to "pull apart". When it is time to serve the cupcakes to the party guests, you simply start pulling the cake apart and handing out the individual cupcakes.

Once frosted, finish off your pull apart cake with small candies, sprinkles, cake decorations, frosting decorations, floral designs, a fancy border, etc.

By the way, here is a recipe for Eggless Chocolate Cupcakes. Makes 16:

1 1/2 cups flour
1 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup cocoa powder
1/2 cup oil
1 cup water
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon vinegar

Mix all ingredients together until moist and well blended. Put in cupcake cups and bake for 20-25 minutes at 350 degrees F.

LV Mini Purses and Cupcakes

I am very thankful as I receive orders. It's funny how life is. Last year, I was in limbo in terms of personal goals. In the back of my mind the thought was there with regards to cake decorating.

One year later - after finishing all 4 levels of Wilton Cake Decorating and sharing countless samples, potential customers are approaching me about my new found interest. It shows that if you work on achieving a goal, you can attain it. Just wanted to share that with you, as I am also thankful that you have decided to stop by to view or follow my blog.

And on to my latest order:

I received an order from a co-worker. His Son Drew is turning One and he and his wife were interested in a dozen eggless banana cupcakes. Six would have the initial S after his mother's name, and the other six would have the initial D which represented Drew. Here they are.

I topped them off chocolate buttercream icing, gumpaste initials and if you look closely I added chocolate wafers as well. Too cute!

His wife's Birthday is fast approaching as well and she has a strong fashion sense. He decided to surprise her with a set of mini LV Purse cakes.

The flavour is red velvet and I worked this look with fondant and gumpaste. I piped the LV logo using royal icing. These were fun to make and photograph.

Sweet Sixteen for Shaynise

This week I had a contract for a Sweet Sixteen event. It was for a very lovely girl name Shaynise. Her theme was Fashion in Paris, and the colours were purple.

The event was held at The Panemonte Banquet Hall in Rexdale, Ontario. They did a wonderful job in working with the colours.

The ballons were supplied by Balloon Decore and More of Brampton, Ontario.

She had a tall order for me to fill. A three tiered cake with the bottom layer flavlour Black Forest, the Middle tier Cookies and Cream, and the top tier Red Velvet. With an Eiffel Tower on top.

As well she wanted her guests to go home with a small gift box of a set of two cake truffles. One Red Velvet and the other Pumpkin Spice.
